Next Big Thing in Advertisement | # | General, Links, Internet, Firefox — jimmybop @ 12:35 am

Next big thing in advertisement

So if you haven’t seen it yet, check out this video. The real life Simpsons:

This is the latest and popular Viral Videos on the Internet today. And this wont disappear anytime soon like SNL’s Lazy Sunday as the company who made it, along with the company who owns the rights to the Simpsons decided to let people download this video. You may not realize this from watching the video, but this is actually an advertisement for the television station, Sky One network, that airs new Simpson episodes in the United Kingdom.

I suspect that this will be the first in a long line of advertisements to come via Viral Videos. These videos are easier then ever to see with sites like You Tube and the like. The key is to make the videos interesting and fun enough for people to want to share them. I foresee that in order to keep the Viral Videos in the state that they are, as mostly amateur unknown people in the videos (excluding clips from your favorite cartoon/tv show) companies will have contests to make commercials for them. This is the case with Firefox’s new ad campaign. Firefox Clips (Firefox Flicks!) is a contest for amateur film makers to submit their own versions on how to get the word out about Firefox. I think in the near future, the winner or more popular versions of the commercial will be passed along very soon.

the fox is spreading | # | General, Internet, Firefox — jimmybop @ 5:30 pm

I am happy to report that firefox is spreading. I am currently at my college’s library, and what do you know, they installed firefox onto the library’s desktop computers. Very Very exciting. Now I’m hoping that the school will start pushing the browser on students so that there will “less” problems on student computers and that they will open back up some gaming/firesharing ports. But one can hope.

Also I am proud to announce that this blog is now part of the Blogs for Firefox blogroll. Check out the site, and join on in if you can. I shall add the blogroll list to my site some time. Gotta figure out how to do it without making my menu list any longer…. I think a new layout is being called for, if I can get off my lazy ass and do it. I’m think three columns wide. But we shall see whats to come and whats out there as I’m not too skilled.

portable firefox | # | General, Links, Internet, Firefox — jimmybop @ 8:34 pm

While i’m sure lost of people have heard of this already but I just found out about it. Ever wish you had firefox while working on a lab computer at school? But all they have is IE??? well this would be your product… Portable Firefox. You download the file on the website, then unzip it to your usb thumb drive and there you go (it does look like it will work with a network drive too), firefox that can be used on lab computers. Sure I find this AFTER school gets out for the semester, but there is always next semester. Check out its development webpage to download it and see how to install it:mozdev.org - portablefirefox

How come your not useing firefox? | # | General, Links, Internet, Firefox — jimmybop @ 2:46 am

So more then likely if you are reading this post, you are not using Firefox…. WHY THE HECK NOT! According to my page states, only about 20% of people viewing my blog have firefox (which I’m sure my frequent visits boost the up a tiny bit), while over 75% are still using Internet Explorer. I beg you, for your own sake, for your family’s sake, and for the people who you will send virus’ sake, at least try firefox (or something other the IE).

Even IBM is telling their workers to download it to use.

So far there have been Firefox download counter downloads of Firefox. (note: the counter is real-time and changes ever couple minutes… and yes it is in the millions). That many people can’t be wrong can they?

The best parts to the Browser is: A: Tabbed Browsing…. you can have multiple web pages opened in one browser. It is very nice when flipping though several pages at once… awesome if your a muli-tasker.
B. Firefox Extensions: Because Firefox is open source, lots of people with lots of time on their hands are able to make add-ons to make your life easier! It also allows people to extensions for fun websites like geobloggers, someone helped put together a script to make posting pictures there much simpler.
C. Virtually no Virus though the browser. Ever since I have installed Firefox, I have had little spy/adware and virus found on my computer since installing Firefox. (read more about virus and adware and why you should get firefox HERE)

So yeah, what are you waiting for???
Get Firefox!
I want to see my stats for browser share go up for firefox!!!!!

And if you still are not going to get it, you better have a good reason and post why in my comments (people with firefox can comment too).

Update 17ish hours later:
Well I looked at the mail today and my PC Magazine came and guess what the cover story is??? “A Better Browser? Firefox, Netscape, & Opera take on Internet Explorer” Story Link: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1815833,00.asp Make sure you check out the green table of contents box on the right hand side for some more great info.

So I guess I jumped the gun by a few hours ;-) But anyways… go get Firefox!

delicious plug-in: Scrumptious | # | General, Links, Internet, Firefox — jimmybop @ 8:32 pm

Just thought I would take a break from paper writting to post about this new plug-in for Firefox that works with del.icio.us called Scrumptious…. its a plug-in that puts a side bar on the browser (that easily opens and closes). When you first arrive on a page, it tells you to push a button to see the tags that other users have posted for the page. If you wish to add it to your lonks, you can right click on the tags to add it into your list, or type in your own at the bottom of the bar (along as change the title and the description). This is realy comes in handy and worth a try! you can download it from: http://www.allpeers.com/blog/?page_id=71
