So a few posts ago I made a small quote from the song “So Long And Thanks For All The Fish” from Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. So I wanted to post the whole thing here to help you all out, but I could not really find any complete lists that were right. So I sat down and listened to the song many many times to try to get it right, and this is about as close as I’m going to get. So enjoy. If you steal my hard work (i’m not claiming the words themselfs, but my transcripton), please at least link back to me(http://come.to/jimmybop), or if you have a blog “trackback” to this post (trackback link can be found by clicking on the “comments” button at the bottom of this post).

So long and thanks for all the fish
So sad that it should come to this
We tried to warn you all but oh dear
You may not share our intellect
Which might explain your disrespect
For all the natural wonders that grow around you.
So long, So long, and thanks for all the fish
The world’s about to be destroyed
Theres no point getting all annoyed.
Lie back and let the planet dissolve (around you)
Despite those nets of tuna fleets
We thought that most of you were sweet
Especially tiny tots and your pregnant women.
So long, So long, So long, So long, So long,
So long, So long, So long, So long, So long,
So long, So long, and thanks for all the fish
If I had just one last wish
I would like a tasty fish
If we could just change one thing
We would all have learnt to sing
Come one and all
Man and mammal
Side by side in life’s great gene pool
So long, So long, So long, So long, So long,
So long, So long, So long, So long, So long,
So long, So long, and thanks for all the fish

I was loooking for the song but the lyrics are a nice consolation prize. Thanks for listening over and over and over…and over…again! I appreciate it.

I had the song, and was looking for a good lyrics sheet. Found a few sites that were incomplete before I found this one. Nice job, and thanks.

Thanks so much. I’ve been humming the song for days and wishing I could sing it out loud, but got tired of singing “la la la la la la la”.
Comment by zanne — May 6, 2005 @ 12:21 am
i’ve been searching for the lyrics all week! that song has been stuck in my head since i saw the movie–thank you for the lyrics!
Comment by Amy — May 6, 2005 @ 1:13 pm
I think you made a mistake: I think it’s “nets and tuna fleets” instead of nets and tuna fish. I’m glad i’m not the only nut out there. My wife heard me singing this song to our son in the bathtub, and she thought I had lost it.
Comment by Descalzo — May 6, 2005 @ 1:16 pm
YAY! I was afraid I was going to have to listen to it 20 times in a row - ironically enough, to post it in an “Ear Worms” thread….

What a great song. You’ve got quite an ear! You should be worshipped as though you were a warrior champion returning home to his small village after defeating an incredible adversary. (I think that’s what you wanted to hear…)

Nice work. Although it is helpful that the Flash version has most of the words. Now, I must go, or I’ll be late. Late, as in the late DentArthurDent.

Man, that’s more than an invitation. Here’s the Italian version (not translation) of So long and thanks for all the fish.
Addio e Grazie per Tutto il Pesce
———————————
Imparare a cantare
Ah! Che gioia
Infinita
Tutti nell’oceano
Della vita
Addio (x5)
Addio (x5)
Vi salutiamo e grazie per tutto il pesce
